If you’ve decided to wear contact lenses for your eye care needs, then you know that sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether or not they are inside out. Below are a few helpful ways to tell whether you are putting them on correctly.

One of the best ways to determine if your lens is inside out or not is to gently fold it. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger so the edges are up. With your thumb, gently pinch the lens to fold it. If the edges of the lens bend outward toward your thumb and finger, then the lens is inside out.

Another method is placing the contact on the tip of your finger the same as above and holding it up to the light. If the lens looks more like a cone, or has more of a peak in its shape then it is inside out. The lens should look like a half circle. Also some lenses have laser marks etched on them to differentiate the correct side.

As you continue to wear contacts, it will be easier to identify whether they are inside out or not. Placing the lenses on incorrectly won’t harm your eyes. Usually you can tell right away because of the discomfort or it will move around when you blink. If this happens, remove the lens, wash it with the solution, and try it again using one of the above methods.
